Acton Smiley descendants visit

The descendants of Acton Smiley and Maggie (Sparling) visited the Pontiac in May,  2014. They originally lived on a farm at Moorhead and had 6 sons and 4 daughters.

Before arriving in Shawville, they visited several cemeteries in the Pontiac County.

On Tuesday May 6th about 16 of the relatives spent the day researching their families at the Pontiac Archives.

Walter Brown from Smith’s Falls and Gloria Tubman, two genealogists, as well as the regular volunteers at the Archives, helped them with their research.

Betty Scharff from Wetaskiwin, Alberta, also came on Wednesday. She had been at the Pontiac Archives before and donated Lucas and Mohr family tree binders.

Robert Wills, representative from the Museum escorted the Smiley group to the Museum for a guided tour.  They were impressed with the collection of materials.

Besides donating books and binders, they donated a CD-R disc containing genealogy records on the James D Smiley family up to May 5, 2014.
